Sell My Property Online (SMPO) is a start-up that saves property vendors thousands of pounds in agency fees by charging a small one off fee to list a property on the SMPO website. I was commissioned to design an identity for SMPO from scratch that would lend itself to a website, for sale board, T-Shirts amongst other marketing literature.

Unlike other logos I have designed the SMPO project really was a wide open brief. Being a start-up SMPO didn't have a legacy in which to build an identity from, so everything was up for consideration.
This situation clearly has its advantages creatively but isn't without its drawbacks too. On the positive side it gives more control to the designer as they have relatively few restrictions in direction and visual tone. However, it does make the potential for getting it approved that bit more tricky due to the absence of any common rules or direction to build from.
After being commissioned to carry out the design work my development process started with some good old fashioned competitor analysis. It was important that SMPO really did stand out from the crowd and I wanted to get a feel - first hand - what was out there already so I was in a good position to design something that offered something different.
After getting a pretty short brief from the client I then went about looking at different concepts via the sketch book. It was important during this phase that I was mindful that the type of logo I designed was scalable within a variety of different contexts: a for sale board; a sticker on the owners car; T-Shirts; web sites etc.
The final vector logo was created in Adobe Illustrator and was accompanied with a compact style guide on how the logo should be conveyed within different types of media.
